Saint Louis Edged by Florida Gulf Coast
KANSAS CITY – Jenny Hummert gave Saint Louis an early lead with her second goal of the season, but Florida Gulf Coast caught and passed the Billikens for a 2-1 win Sunday in the UMKC Tournament.
Hummert’s goal, with an assist from Lindsay Elking, was scored at the 2:24 mark. Elking’s pass found Hummert in the center, and the junior forward beat FGCU goalkeeper Brittany Brown in the left corner of the net.
Florida Gulf Coast (5-1-1) scored the equalizer at 12:34, with Shea Rhoney (Kayley Clay assist) recording her third goal of the season. The Eagles’ Shannen Wacker, assisted by Clay and Ally Kasun, tallied the game winner at 82:31. The goal was Wacker’s third of the year.
Brown made five saves, while SLU’s Katie Walsh collected three. Total shots were even at eight.
Hummert and Jamei Borges were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Billikens (1-3-2) host Iowa Wednesday, Sept. 12. First whistle at Hermann Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m.
