Saint Martin's Drops SFU 1-0 In the Clan's Final Road Game
Lacey, WA – The SFU Clan women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in their final road game of the 2011 season today against the Saint Martin’s Saints in Lacey, WA.
The lone goal of the game was scored by Saint Martin’s in the 61st minute. Dani Eldridge got the goal with an overhead kick that got past Clan goalkeeper Amelia Ng (Richmond, BC).
“We’ve played some very good games lately but today we didn’t,” said Head Coach Shelley Howieson. “We just had difficulty getting into any kind of a flow, especially early on. In the second half we played better, generated some quality scoring chances but we couldn’t finish. On their goal we missed our mark and they took advantage of it.”
Ng played another solid game for the Clan, making saves when needed to keep the score close including seven saves in the first half.
The Saints put most of their pressure on SFU early, but the steady play and calming influence of Ali Trenter (Coquitlam, BC), who entered the game in the 20th minute as a substitution, seemed to help the Clan rebound.
While SFU couldn’t generate any points today, they did create several good opportunities in the second half although they couldn’t convert on them.
Amelia Ng played the entire game for the Clan while the Saints used both their goalkeepers with Ashley Engel playing the first half, making one save, and Gina Cardenas playing the second half, also making one save.
The Clan will wrap up their 2011 season this Friday night at Terry Fox Field when they host the Western Washington University Vikings. Game time is 7:00 PM and admission is free.
