Saints End Non-Conference Play on High Note
Freshman midfielders Alejandro Riquelme and Andreas Rosnes scored 72 seconds apart midway through the second half to lead Siena Soccer to a 2-0 victory in the Saints’ non-conference finale at LIU Brooklyn. Senior goalkeeper Aleksa Radosavljevic made six saves for Siena which handed the Blackbirds just their third loss in their past 20 home matches.
Following a scoreless and relatively evenly played first 63 minutes, Siena (2-3-3) broke through in a big way. A defensive miscue in the box was won by Riquelme who flicked the ball over the charging keeper and into the goal for his third score of the season.
And in the blink of an eye, the Saints put the match away. Red-shirt senior captain Danilo Markovic served a ball into the box which was headed down by senior striker Alexander Tejera to Rosnes who was on the doorstep to tap in his first collegiate goal.
LIU Brooklyn (0-5-1) held a 15-7 advantage in shots, while Siena harbored a 7-5 margin in corners. Cole Palmer made two saves for the Blackbirds which are now winless over their past eight matches dating back to last season.
The Saints open the program’s 29th season of MAAC competition Wednesday in Buffalo with a 4 p.m. kickoff at Canisius.
