Saints Rally Late to Draw MAAC Opener
Jayanna Monds scored the equalizer with just 6:06 remaining in regulation as Siena Women’s Soccer rallied to earn a 1-1 draw at Rider in the MAAC opener for both teams in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Taylor Dorado made a season-high nine saves – including three in the final overtime session – for the Saints which ran their unbeaten streak to four.
Valeria Pascuet put Rider (3-2-3, 0-0-1) on top with just 27 seconds left in the opening half, when she blasted a free kick from straight on just outside the 18 into the top left corner. But Monds responded in the 84th minute, finishing a one-touch feed from Carrie Krohn across into the far left corner.
The perennial MAAC rivals combined to register 37 shots in a tightly contested all-time series which remained deadlocked at 10-10-5. Siena (2-5-2, 0-0-1), which entered play averaging 10.3 shots per match, tallied a season-high 21 shots while also holding a 5-3 edge in corners in tying its MAAC opener for the second straight season. Julianna Kissane led the Saints with four shots, and earned the secondary assist as she initiated the tying score by Monds.
Carmen Carbonell made four saves for the Broncs.
Siena returns to non-conference action one final time Wednesday when the Saints travel to crosstown rival UAlbany for a 7 p.m. showdown.
