Saints Rally to Tie Marist
Junior striker Cassy Landis scored her team-high third goal of the year as Siena Women’s Soccer rallied to earn a 1-1 tie at Marist. Senior captain Taylor Booth made six saves for Siena which is unbeaten in six of its past seven matches (3-1-3).
Marist (1-6-2, 0-1-2) out-shot the Saints (4-5-3, 1-1-1) 17-10 and controlled tempo for the first half of the match. The Red Foxes finally broke through, taking the lead on a Marjana Maksuti header in the 59th minute.
But the Saints responded 10 minutes later. Junior Michelle Yanniello’s pass from the right found the head of Landis to knot the score.
The Saints turned up the pressure late, out-shooting Marist 6-1 over the final 27 minutes of the match including both overtime periods. Siena attempted three shots in the last 2:08 of the final overtime, putting one on target, but could not cash in and had to settle for a key conference road point.
With her six saves, Booth moved into sole possession of fifth place in program history with 237 for her career. Ashley Houghton stopped five shots for the Red Foxes in a physical affair that featured 31 combined fouls.
The Saints conclude a tough road stretch where they play five of six on the road Saturday at Saint Peter’s. Kickoff is at noon in Jersey City, N.J.
