Saints Shut Down Iona
Gabby Albano and Casey Scott scored as Siena Women’s Soccer shut out Iona 2-0 in New Rochelle. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Dorado made two saves to record her third clean sheet of the season.
Following an evenly played and scoreless first half, Siena (6-6, 2-3) controlled the final 45 minutes. The Saints out-shot Iona (1-9-2, 0-3-1) 10-2 in the stanza while also harboring a 5-1 advantage in corners.
Siena broke through in the 57th minute when Albano scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Junior back Amanda Holtzmancreated a turnover in deep and fed classmate Lindsay Mulligan who passed across to Albano for the opening score. The goal would prove to be Albano’s third game-winner already this fall and the sixth over her career to move her into a tie for seventh most in program history.
Scott added some insurance in the 74th minute as the senior scored her first collegiate goal. The Gaels attempted to clear a cross from freshman midfielder Deanna Lomino, but the loose ball found Scott at the top of the 18 who lofted one inside the top left corner.
The Saints held a 17-10 advantage in shots overall for the match including an 8-4 edge in corners en route to winning their fifth straight over Iona. Tiffany Martinez made eight saves for the Gaels which were shutout for the fourth consecutive match.
Siena returns to action Wednesday when they host rival Marist at 4 p.m.
