Scranton Rolls To 4-0 Victory At Marywood
SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior midfielder Ellen Walker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had a goal and an assist to lead The University of Scranton women’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory at crosstown rival Marywood on Thursday evening.
Walker scored the Royals’ second goal and assisted on the fourth as they improved to 3-0 all-time against Marywood. Junior forwards Sarah Andrews (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) and Gianna Vitolo (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls), and sophomore forward Kelsey Bacon (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) added goals for Scranton (3-3).
Bacon put the Royals on the board in the 17th minute when she scored off a perfect cross from sophomore midfielder Carolyn Warner (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills). Walker’s direct kick found the back of the net in the 26th minute, and Andrews made it 3-0 at halftime when she pounced on a rebound and scored in the 33rd minute.
Vitolo capped the scoring 53rd minute when Walker stole a pass and found her for the final tally of the night.
Walker now has four goals and eight assists on her career while picking up her first points of the season. Bacon now has 12 career goals, including this season, Vitolo has 10 career goals after scoring her first of the year, and Andrews now has two career goals, both this season. Warner’s assist was her first career point.
The Royals held a 17-2 advantage in shots over Marywood (0-6), including 11-1 in shots on goal.
Scranton returns to action on Saturday when the Royals host Farmingdale State at 3:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
