SCSU Captures Lead Late to Defeat Maryville
Fayette, Iowa - The St. Cloud State University women's soccer team rounded out the Peacock Tournament Friday afternoon as they took on Maryville University (Mo.). The Huskies scored late in the second half to defeat the Saints 1-0.
The match was scoreless during the first half as Maryville outshot the Huskies by a margin of 10-5.
St. Cloud came back in the second half continuing to battle for a win outshooting the Saints by two. The Huskies were able to take a 1-0 lead at the 86:53 mark of the game off a drive by junior Taige Thoreson with the assist in to Kara Espinosa for a shot four yards out.
The Huskies held on to the lead for the remainder of the game for their second shutout victory of the 2013 campaign. In the net for St. Cloud was sophomore Brittany Plombon recording nine saves and her second win of the season.
Sophomore Ally Herod led the Huskies with three shots and one on goal, while teammates Kara Dahmen and Espinosa followed each having two shots.
The Huskies will return to action on Friday, September 13 as they welcome Northwest Missouri State University to Husky Stadium for a 7 p.m. game time. The Huskies first NSIC game is set for Sunday, September 15 as they host Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m.
