Seahawks Blanked At Central Connecticut
New Britain, CT – The Wagner College women's soccer team fell to fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent Central Connecticut by a score of 6-0 on Friday night.
With the loss, the Seahawks drop to 3-9-3 on the year and 0-4-1 in NEC play, while the Blue Devils improve to 8-7 on the year and 4-2 within the NEC.
The Green and White saw its first scoring chances of the contest roughly 15 minutes into the first half, as freshmen Madison Starr (New Canaan, CT / New Canaan) and Mya Donnelly (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) both had attempts, but weren't able to find the back of the net. Sophomore Maria Nunez(East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) also had a chance to score with eight minutes remaining in the period, but her shot was saved.
After taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Yo Tachibana and Laura Casanovas Diaz, CCSU had a chance to expand its lead further, but sophomore Delaney Beck (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial) stopped a Blue Devils' penalty kick with just over ten minutes to play in the half for her second PK save of the season.
The Blue Devils opened up the second half with goals in the 47th and 58th minute and added two additional late markers to gain a 6-0 advantage.
Wagner had scoring chances on shots by freshman Taylor Wasserman (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison) and junior Peyton Beck (St. Louis, MO / Webster Groves), but could not capitalize.
Delaney Beck led the Seahawks with 11 saves, while Wagner combined for eight shots on the night.
Next up, the Green and White returns home for a matchup with Sacred Heart on Sunday, October 22, at 1:00 pm.
