Staten Island, NY – Sophomore forward Luisa Barone scored five minutes into the contest while senior tri-captain defender Kaitlyn Ross added a score right before the half as the Wagner women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three, defeating Robert Morris by a 2-1 count on Friday evening at Hameline Field.
 
The Seahawks move to 4-6-1 overall on the season and 2-0-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action while the Colonials fall to 3-7-1 and 1-2-0 in league play.
 
For Wagner, it marks the program's best start in conference fixtures since 2014, when the squad went 2-1-1 over its first for conference tilts.
 
The Green & White had a pair of early chances off the foot of junior midfielder Julia Fitzsimmons but found the mark in the fifth minute as junior Mya Donnelly was able to send a ball into the box that was just deflected by freshman Renata Djuravecevic, but it was Barone that was able to stuff home the chance in giving Wagner a 1-0 advantage.
 
For Barone, it marked her second of the goal of the season while Donnelly picked up her first helper of the contest and of the season.
 
Robert Morris had just a pair of shots find their mark, with freshman goalkeeper Erin Kelly able to turn away the scoring chances from the visitors. In the 24th, Megan DiNatale was able to create a chance but was denied. Allie Ball had a similar opportunity six minutes later but Kelly recorded the save.
 
With just two minutes remaining before halftime, Donnelly was again the catalyst, this time sending a great service into the middle that was corralled by Ross, who put a good touch on the ball and was rewarded with her first career goal while giving the home team a two goal lead.
 
The Seahawks outshot RMU, 8-5, in the opening stanza while also holding a 5-1 edge in set pieces.
 
In the second half, the Colonials found its rhythm and were rewarded with a goal in the 54th as Bailey Farabaugh booted a ball that ricocheted off the top-left post and trickled into the back of the net to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
 
The visitors nearly evened the contest in the latter portion of the contest as Kristina Kelley had a pair of chance, with her shot with a minute left was right in front of Kelly, who was able to make the stop.
 
For the contest, Robert Morris outshot Wagner, 19-13. Kelly was credited with a career-best 11 stops while her counterpart, Sydney Bruckner, made four saves in the contest.
 
The Seahawks will look to remain unbeaten in four straight matches as they will look for its second straight win when they host Saint Francis U on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field.
