BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield played Seattle University to a scoreless first half and pulled within a goal after going down 2-0 in the second but were unable to get any closer falling to the Redhawks 3-1 Friday night at the Main Soccer Field.

CSUB and Seattle were evenly matched in the first halfheading into the break scoreless with three shots apiece on goal but the Redhawks rode tallies from Emma Levy in the 61st minute and Taylor Ritzman nearly four minutes later to take control of the match midway throughthe second half.

The Roadrunners pulled within a goal in the 70th minute when sophomore Taylor Jordan (Tulare, Calif., Tulare Union HS) scored from eight yards out via a pass from Tyler Shirk (So., Monrovia, Calif., Monrovia HS). It was Taylor’s first goal of the season.  Despite making it a one-goal game, the Redhawks never allowed the ‘Runners to draw even and added the final goal in the 78th minute when Shawna Anderson dribbled through the CSUB defense and scored an unassisted goal.

Shots were nearly even with Seattle holding a 9-8 advantage.CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips felt the rest of the match was even as well, but Seattle closed out their opportunities.

“It’s disappointing to lose a level game when we had quality opportunities,” Phillips said. “Seattle was able to put away the same chances and it was the sole difference.”

The Roadrunners will play at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 4 p.m. before returning home next Thursday (Oct. 20), to host UC Davis at 7 p.m.
