#Seawolves down Lehigh in home opener 3-0
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The #Seawolves received a goal and an assist from senior Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) and two assists from sophomore Favio Sbarra (Caracas, Venezuela) in a 3-0 win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (1-2) in their home opener on Friday night in front of 500 fans at LaValle Stadium.
Anatol's Reaction
"I thought it was a good performance overall," Anatol said. "To score three goals is always a big positive and we created quite a few chances so that was also good. To get a shutout, especially with the way the guys battled against a very difficult and direct Lehigh team is also something I am very happy with."
Goals
- The #Seawolves opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when McKenna redirected a cross from Akeem Morris (Elmont, N.Y.). The play was started when Sbarra sprayed a ball over the top isolating Morris on the flank and allowing him to beat a defender to the byline before crossing it into the mix.
- Junior Martin Giordano added a big insurance goal in the 82nd minute after he was picked out by redshirt freshman Dario Vanegas (Miami, Fla.) with a gorgeous cross. Giordano did what a good goal scorer is supposed to, head the ball down and back where it came from, beating the keeper to his left. Sbarra also picked up an assist on the play.
- Junior Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) scored the Seawolves third goal two minutes later. Freshman Thibault Duval (Grace Hollogne, Belgium) fed McKenna who switched the ball to Fritz in a dangerous scoring position. He calmly finished the change to put the icing on the cake.
Notes
- Stony Brook only attempted 11 shots for the match but most of them were quality chances. Seven of the 11 attempts found their way on target.
- The Seawolves received solid contributions across the board as seven players recorded at least a point.
- Giordano paced Stony Brook with four shots, all on target.
