#Seawolves down Vermont, 1-0
October 16, 2014
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sophomore Hannah Groth's (Cedarburg, Wis.) first career goal was the only time the ball found the back of the net in Stony Brook's 1-0 victory over Vermont Thursday night. With the win, the #Seawolves moved to .500 in conference play at 2-2-1 and ran their unbeaten streak to three games.
Goal Recap
- The #Seawolves caught the Catamounts napping on a corner kick in the 24th minute. Junior Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.) played a ball on the ground to a wide open Groth who buried the chance with an inside of the foot finish.
Highlights
- Early in the match, Regan Bosnyak (West Hartford, Conn.) appeared to score on a header for the second consecutive match, but this time the goal was brought back because the linesman ruled she was in an offsides position.
- Redshirt sophomore Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) nearly had a breakaway when freshman Maddie Good (Palmyra, Pa.) slipped a through ball onto her path, but she collided with Vermont's goalkeeper, Adriana Speckmaier, when the two arrived at the ball simultaneously. The impact of the blow knocked Speckmaier out of the match.
- Sophomore Leah Yurko (Cumberland, Md.) did get a breakaway later in the second half but she was denied by Ally Ramos, who came in to relieve Speckmaier.
Notes
- Redshirt senior Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y.) made four saves to record her second shutout of the season and the 11th of her career. She sits fourth in school history in that rank.

- Stony Brook held a decisive 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
- Yurko came off the bench to lead Stony Brook with three shots.
