#Seawolves lose to Maine, 1-0
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The #Seawolves put together a late flourish but couldn't find the equalizing goal in a 1-0 loss to the Maine Black Bears on Thursday night at LaValle Stadium.
Ryan's Reaction
"We came up short against a good, scrappy Maine team," said Ryan. "In games like these, the margin for error is so thin. They found a way to score a goal and we didn't and that was the difference."
Goal Recap
Eve L'Abbe scored the game's lone goal in the 50th minute, running on to Camille Varin-Trembley's flicked on header and curling one by redshirt senior Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y.) into the far post.
Highlights
- Freshman Maddie Good (Palmyra, Pa.) nearly put the #Seawolves ahead in the first half when she won a battle in the box but her shot to the near post was deflected by the goalkeeper into the outside of the side netting for a corner kick.
- After the Black Bears goal, the #Seawolves picked up the pressure. Redshirt sophomore Rave Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) almost tied it up moments later when Devereaux whipped in a cross behind the Maine back four, but she pushed the shot wide.
- Senior Shannon Grogan (Eastampton, N.J.) took a stab at tying the game when she found room down the right flank but her shot was handled by Maine's Claudia Dube-Trempe.
- Edwards had the final chance to tie the game when she slipped through for a partial breakaway but her shot was struck into the gut of the oncoming goalkeeper.
Notes
- Stony Brook found itself on the losing side despite outshooting the Black Bears 15-10 and holding a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
- The Seawolves also attempted five corner kicks to just one from Maine.
- Devereaux and Edwards led Stony Brook with three shots each, while Grogan paced the team with two shots on goal.
