Second-Half Outburst Lifts Moravian Past CC
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Moravian scored all of its goals during a five-minute span of the second half as it defeated the Centenary College women's soccer team 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Greyhounds collected four of the match's six shots during the first half, but junior goalkeeper Nikki Gillis (Howell, N.J./Howell) helped preserve a scoreless game, stopping all four shots during the first 45 minutes.
The game remained without a goal until the 56th minute when Kirsten Schall fed Catherine Lampaugh for her first score of the fall, putting the Greyhounds in front 1-0.
Christine Miklas followed with a pair of goals over the next four minutes, helping to put away the Cyclones. Schall also assisted on one of Miklas' tallies.
Gillis made six saves to lead Centenary. Junior Laura Potter (Gilboa, N.Y./Gilboa-Conesville) recorded three shots, while senior Kelley Carvalho (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Catholic) and junior Cara Holmes (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) both attempted two.
Genevieve Chaleff and Jacqueline Zalis split time in net for Moravian. Chaleff stopped six shots, while Zalis blocked three.
The Cyclones will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they visit Richard Stockton at 6:00 pm.
