Second-half strikes send Kenyon past MU
GAMBIER, OHIO – As she has throughout her record-setting career, Manchester University senior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) was up to a tough task Friday, Aug. 29.
The Spartans’ net minder repelled 11 Kenyon College shots in the face of a 19-11 total advantage for the Ladies. Unfortunately, two other tries found the back of the goal from the foot of senior forward Becca Romaine, the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, to lead KC to a 2-1 non-conference win at Mavec Field.
It took the combination of senior forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) and sophomore midfielder Allison Moore (Richmond, Ind.) to break up the home side’s attempt at a clean sheet in the 56th minute. After Crouse’s opening salvo was saved, Moore took the rebound and sent it in for a 1-1 tie. Senior midielder Sofie Tzortzinis (Ann Arbor, Mich.) also rifled four shot attempts for the Black and Gold’s offense.
Manchester University resumes in NCAC tour with a match at Denison University Saturday, Aug. 30. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
