CONFERENCE SCHEDULE ENDS THIS WEEK FOR TRITONS
The UC San Diego women's soccer team rounds out the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) portion of its 2015 schedule this week. The second-place Tritons (9-5-1, 5-4-1 CCAA) host area rival and new league foe Cal State San Marcos (3-6-5, 3-4-3 CCAA) at Triton Soccer Stadium this Wednesday night, Oct. 21. They then travel back to Northern California to take on rival Chico State (9-3-2, 5-2-1 CCAA) on Friday, Oct. 23. Kickoffs for both contests this week are slated for primetime at 7 p.m. They each again make up doubleheaders with the UCSD men, who take the pitch at 4:30 p.m. UCSD is 6-2-1 at home and an even 3-3 outside of La Jolla this year.
The Tritons share second place in the standings with Chico State and reigning CCAA champion Cal State L.A. at 16 points apiece. The top six sides in the final table qualify for the CCAA Tournament.
MATCHDAY SPECS
Once again in 2015, all regular-season home matches at Triton Soccer Stadium are free to attend. Parking permits are required, however, on weeknights on the UCSD campus. Parking permits can be purchased at machines situated at corners of either of the nearest parking lots, behind the spectator stand, as well as the Hopkins Parking Structure behind RIMAC. Parking is free on weekends. All games, home and away, have live stats. Some matches also feature video, including both this week, free of charge. All live links are available here.
TRITONS ROCK HUNGER
The Triton Athletes' Council (TAC) is joining with other campus organizations to collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items this week. Items collected will be donated to the San Diego Food Bank. Red barrels will be located at Triton Soccer Stadium during Wednesday's doubleheader, as well as the main RIMAC and upstairs Intercollegiate Athletics lobbies, and all fans are invited to join in the Tritons Rock Hunger effort.
A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK
UCSD gained an important split of a tough road trip last weekend, winning 1-0 at Humboldt State on Friday afternoon before taking a 1-0 loss at then-11th-ranked league leader Sonoma State on Sunday. Kiera Bocchinonotched the lone score in Arcata, heading in a rebound at 20:21 after Katie O'Laughlin's headed effort had just come off of the crossbar. It was Bocchino's second goal of 2015. O'Laughlin earned credit for her second assist in as many games. Kelcie Brodsky made three saves to preserve the shutout, before making a season-high 12 stops on Sunday in Rohnert Park.
TRITONS IN REGION POLL
UCSD appears at eighth in the seventh edition of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West Region poll, released on Tuesday. The first installment of the all-important, official NCAA region polls will be unveiled this Wednesday, Oct. 21, with the top six teams in the final version of that listing, qualifying for the 2015 NCAA Championship.
POSTSEASON PICTURE
UCSD begins the week in a three-way tie for second in the CCAA table. The Tritons have just two league matches remaining. There are actually two weeks left in the CCAA regular season, but UCSD has a bye in the final week, and will be the first side to complete its 12-game slate this Friday night at Chico State. Of this week's opponents, Cal State San Marcos is alone in seventh, four points back of the Tritons, but the Cougars are not eligible for this year's conference tourney. Chico State is tied with UCSD, but has two games in hand. Cal State L.A. is also on 16 points, but has played one fewer contest than the Tritons have. Sonoma State leads the league with 22 points. The top six teams in the final standings will make the 2015 CCAA Tournament. The two highest point-getters qualify automatically through to Kellogg Field on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona, a first-time host of the league semifinals and final. Two first-round tilts will be played at campus sites on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
REILLY REALLY MAKING MARK ON COLLEGE GAME
Mary Reilly, a true freshman locally out of Chula Vista and Hilltop High School, leads the CCAA with eight goals scored, three game-winning goals (tied), 60 shots taken and 39 shots on goal. She is second with 18 total points. The forward hit for an incredible four goals in a 4-2 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night, Oct. 2, becoming the first Triton to do so since former All-American Megan Dickey during an 11-0 home victory over Central Washington more than a decade before on Sept. 8, 2005. Reilly is the only player in the CCAA and in fact the West Region, with four goals in a game in 2015, the output tying her with 15 others for fourth nationally in Division II.
BRODSKY BROADENS CAREER CREDENTIALS
Kelcie Brodsky continues to add to her stellar numbers as UCSD's fourth-year starting goalkeeper. Having set the program's single-season saves mark at 114 as a true freshman in 2012, she broke the career standard in that category in the final game of her junior campaign. She then eclipsed the 300-save mark with her seventh in the 56th minute at Azusa Pacific (9/10), reaching double figures for a single contest for the second time as she finished with 11. Brodsky's up-to-date career total stands at 353. She is second in the CCAA with 68 on the year, having twice led the league in saves, in 2012 (114) and 2014 (83). At home against Point Loma (9/5), she kept her 20th individual shutout as a Triton, and now has five on the year and 24 in all. The Agoura Hills product has received postseason recognition from the CCAA for each of her first three years. She made the All-CCAA Second Team as a freshman and junior, garnering All-CCAA honorable mention in between. Brodsky is fifth this season in the CCAA in goals-against average (0.97), first in minutes (1392:34), fourth in save percentage (.819), and tied for fourth in shutouts. She is seventh nationally in minutes.
O'LAUGHLIN A CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore striker Katie O'Laughlin earned CCAA Player of the Week distinction for the first time in her career on Sept. 29. The Carlsbad product accounted for the decisive goal in UCSD home victories on Sept. 25 and Sept. 27, representing her first game-winning tallies as a Triton. She is second on the team with five goals and 12 total points on the year.
YOUTH BEING SERVED
Nineteen of UCSD's 22 goals this season have come from first- or second-year collegians, with eight by freshman Mary Reilly, five by sophomore Katie O'Laughlin, and two each by sophomore Jordyn McNutt and freshman Megumi Barber. The other five scores have come from freshmen Summer Bales and Danielle Nunn, redshirt junior Kiera Bocchino (two), and redshirt sophomore Maxia Espino. Underclassmen have also been the providers of 13 of 20 assists, with four by McNutt and two each by Bales, O'Laughlin and Reilly. UCSD had a season high of six true freshmen or sophomores in its starting lineup in three straight matches from Sept. 12-18. Goalkeeper Kelcie Brodskyis the only senior who has seen action.

HEAD COACH BRIAN McMANUS
Brian McManus is in his 29th season in charge of the UCSD women's soccer program. With a career record of 459-84-51, he has achieved the most wins (tied with Gabe Mejail of Merrimack College) in NCAA Division II women's soccer history, and fifth-most for all divisions (tied with Mejail). McManus' career winning percentage heading into 2015 of .820, ranked among the top 10 in college women's soccer annals, both overall (No. 9) and Division II only (No. 4). He was also second in win percentage among active Division II coaches. McManus has directed UCSD to seven national championships and a record eight CCAA banners, with the Tritons advancing to the national semifinals a remarkable 15 times in his 28 years. Under his guidance, UCSD has qualified for the NCAA tournament all 13 seasons during the Division III days, and all but three (2004, 2013-14) of 15 years since the move up to Division II.
