Senn Sinks Raiders, 2-1

October 1, 2017

DAYTON, Ohio - Sydney Senn scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute to help the Milwaukee women's soccer team claim a 2-1 victory over Wright State Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Panthers (11-0-2, 3-0-1 Horizon League) remained unbeaten after coming back from its first deficit of the season against the Raiders (7-6-0, 2-2 Horizon League) to claim the win.

"The team did an excellent job today overcoming a lot of adversity from injuries, playing a talented team on the road, and battling back after giving up the first goal," UWM head coach Troy Fabiano said "The second half was a character check for our team and the team responded very well – answering with a quick goal and then they kept working and found a way to get the win."

Scoreless at the half, Wright State tallied at the 51:08 mark to take the 1-0 advantage and put Milwaukee behind on the scoreboard for the first time in 13 games this season.

The situation lasted all of 50 seconds, with Aubrey Krahn netting her seventh of the season on an assist from Lourdes Onwuemeka – her league-leading seventh of the season – to make it a new game less than a minute later at the 51:58 mark.

A defensive battle throughout, the game remained 1-1 headed into the final 20 minutes. A team save by the Panthers cleared a potential WSU goal in the 78th minute. That was followed up by the real momentum-turner, as Senn picked a great time for her first goal of the campaign, burying the eventual winner at the 81:41 mark off an assist by Anna Smalley.

For the game, Wright State actually finished with a slight 9-to-8 shot advantage, which included a 5-to-4 edge in shots on target. The hosts also nearly doubled-up the corner kicks at 11-6, while UWM had 15 of the 26 fouls.

Senn was the only player on the team to record more than one shot (she had a pair). In goal, Mallory Geurts made three saves to secure the victory.

Up next, the Panthers have the week off to focus on a big game Saturday, welcoming Northern Kentucky to Engelmann Stadium. Game time against the first-place (4-0) Norse is set for 7 p.m.
