Seton Hall Men’s Soccer Edges BU, 2-1, In Overtime
BOSTON, Mass. – The Seton Hall men’s soccer team came from behind to win a 2-1 overtime thriller at Boston University on Friday night. Sophomore Max Garcia’s (Jersey City, N.J.) third goal of the season in the 97th minute improved the Pirates to 2-1-1 on the year.
Senior defender Joe Baker (Lincoln, Neb.) charged into the right side of the goal box and centered to Garcia, who used a soft chip shot from 10 yards away that went over goalkeeper Nick Thompson’s head and then bounced into the net for the game-winner.
SHU fell behind on a Dominique Badji goal in the ninth minute of the game. A Sanford Spivey cross sailed straight to the head of Badji, who was in perfect position from six yards out for the first goal of the game.
The score remained that way until the 60th minute, when Damian Bziukiewicz (East Rutherford, N.J.) sent a long crossing pass to Giovanni Zammiello (Randolph, N.J.), who also used his head to even things up, 1-1. The goal was the senior’s first of the season and just the second of his career.
Sophomore Anthony Reichwaldt (Lincoln, Neb.) made seven stops to push his record above .500. Garcia continued his excellent play with seven shots with two on target.
The Terriers (1-3) outshot the Pirates, 19-15, and held a 6-2 edge on corner kicks.
Seton Hall returns to Owen T. Carroll Field on Monday, September 12, for a 7:00 p.m. contest against St. Peter’s.
