SFU Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Western Oregon
Monmouth, OR – The SFU women’s soccer team fell in another one goal game this afternoon, losing 1-0 to the Western Oregon University Wolves. With the loss, SFU’s record drops to 1-7-0 this season (0-6-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play) while Western Oregon improves their record to 3-5-2 on the year (2-3-1 in GNAC competition). The Clan have suffered from some bad luck lately, as today’s game was their third straight 1-0 defeat.
In the first half, Western Oregon outshot the Clan but Amelia Ng (Richmond, BC) did a good job in the SFU goal to keep the game tied at zero. Ng, who is fourth among GNAC goalies in saves per game, made six saves in the first half.
In the second half, Western Oregon found a way to get one past Ng when they scored on a rebound. The initial shot came at 54:06 off the foot of Lindsay Bauman. Ng blocked it but she couldn’t do anything about the rebound. Marina Austin received the rebound and deposited the ball into the open net for her first goal of the season at 54:12.
Ng made a total of nine saves this afternoon in net for SFU. Brittney Rigtrup made one save for Western Oregon, recording the shutout.
Western Oregon received nine corners this afternoon while SFU had zero.
The SFU Clan women’s soccer team will be back on the road next Wednesday when they travel to Bellingham, WA to face the Western Washington University Vikings. Game time is 6:00 PM.
