Shaw Earns MAAC Co-Rookie of the Week
Siena Men’s Soccer’s Cam Shaw became the first Saint this season to earn a MAAC weekly award, following a game-winning goal last Thursday. Shaw was named the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Week Monday Afternoon, sharing the award with Rider’s Guillaume Vacter.
“I am very happy for Cam, especially knowing how hard he has been practicing,” head coach Graciano Brito said. “Individual awards are great, but they also show the improvement of the team.”
Competing in his second game in the Green and Gold and the program’s first match at home in over 16 months, Shaw recorded a goal and an assist to push Siena over Canisius for their first win of the season last Thursday. The Ottawa, Ontario product fed a ball from the top right of the box to classmate Jack Mendrysa, who put the Saints on the board in the 61st minute. Shaw then capped a stretch of three goals in under 15 minutes for his squad by burying a ball from 35 yards out for his first collegiate goal in the 76th minute, which proved to be the game-winner in the 3-2 decision.
Shaw’s accolade marks the third straight season that a Siena newcomer has taken home a MAAC Rookie of the Week award. Siena is back in action this Thursday, March 26, as they travel to Hamden, Connecticut to face MAAC rivals Quinnipiac at 2:30 PM.
