Shim Tabbed Senior CLASS Award Candidate
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (Sept. 2, 2014) – Senior forward Ashleigh Shim has been pinned one of 30 women's soccer Senior CLASS Award candidates, the committee announced on Tuesday. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
Shim, whose two goals against North Florida on Aug. 24 propelled the forward into the top 10 in Panther history for scoring (No. 10 goals (17), No. 9 points (44)), was named to the 2014 Conference USA Preseason All-Conference team last month. She led the squad in goals as a junior (8), while accumulating well over 60 hours of community service during the school year. She's also a four-time Dean's List recipient.
The pool of 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
