Shinyashiki Nets Second Hat Trick of 2018
DENVER – Senior striker Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) netted the eighth multi-goal game of his career and his second-career hat trick to take the [6/2] University of Denver men’s soccer team past North Florida on Sunday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
Co-captain Scott DeVoss (Centennial, Colo.) scored the sixth goal of his career to put the Pioneers 3-0 ahead in the second half.
Shinyashiki’s sixth goal of the season was scored from the spot in the second minute after redshirt-senior Eric Kronenberg (Boulder, Colo.) touched the ball around North Florida goalkeeper Phil D’Amico before being undercut by the keeper. Freshman winger Stefan DeLeone (Fort Collins, Colo.) played a thru ball in behind to Kronenberg to setup the penalty.
The Denver skipper doubled the Pioneers advantage in the 23rd minute off a cross field pass from senior winger Kenny Akamatsu (Niigata, Japan). Shinyashiki touched the ball around his defender to setup his strike in the side netting.
Denver created a few more chances in the first half to go into the intermission with a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corners.
Kronenberg and freshman outside back Gideon Davis (Barcelona, Spain) made their debuts in the starting XI on Sunday night.
DeVoss found the back of the net for the first time in the 2018 season in the 67th minute, ripping a half-clearance off a Denver set piece into the left side of the net from 22 yards away.
Shinyashiki completed his second hat trick of the early season off a long ball from senior goalkeeper Nick Gardner (Marvin, N.C.) that bounced over the North Florida back line to the run of Shinyashiki. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native touched the ball around the goalie at the top of the 18 and finished his eighth goal of the season into the open net. Shinyashiki has all four game-winning goals for the Pioneers this season.
