Siena Cruises to 20th Straight Over Peacocks
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women’s Soccer recorded its milestone 20th consecutive win over MAAC foe Saint Peter’s with a convincing 5-0 triumph at Siena Field. Junior striker Gabby Albano scored twice for the Saints which have now outscored the Peacocks by a whopping 80-8 margin during the streak.
Senior striker Kelsey Horst and junior striker Meghan Riccardi came off the bench to add a goal and an assist apiece for Siena (8-6, 4-3) which has responded to a four-match losing streak by reeling off four consecutive victories to move above .500 in the MAAC.
The Saints erupted for four second half goals and held commanding advantages in both shots (26-7) and corner kicks (11-0) in securing its ninth win in its past 11 home matches dating back to last season.
Albano opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first half in the eighth minute and, following an own goal in the 47th minute, all but put the match away with her second score of the afternoon in the 52nd minute. Albano has posted team-highs of seven goals and four game-winning goals during a breakout junior season, and her seven career game-winning scores are now tied for fourth most all-time in program history.
Senior captain Michele Tremblay also continued to inch up in the program’s record book as her corner kick set up Albano’s game-winning goal. Tremblay’s conference-leading eighth assist of the year is just one off the program single-season record, and her 18 career helpers are tied for third most in school history.
Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Dorado made four saves to register her fourth shutout for Siena which has outscored the opposition 12-2 during its winning streak.
Victoria Scarratt stopped nine shots for an improved Saint Peter’s (3-9, 1-5) squad which has already tied for the program’s most victories in eight years and recently earned its first conference win in three years.
The Saints will look to keep rolling when they head to Western New York for a midweek showdown Wednesday at Niagara at 3 p.m.
