Six Earn All-League; Forrest Named OPOTY
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A program record-tying six Lehigh men's soccer student-athletes garnered All-Patriot League accolades, including Mark Forrest who was named the Offensive Player of the Year as the league announced the awards on Monday afternoon.
Lehigh tied Boston U for the second-most All-League honorees this season, while regular season champion and preseason favorite, Loyola, led the way with seven selections. The Mountain Hawks have had five or more All-League selections 10 times since the league's formation in 1990.
Forrest, the Patriot League leader in points and goals, also earned a first-team All-League selection in an addition to his Offensive Player of the Year accolade. This is the second All-League selection for the junior forward as he earned a third-team honor his freshman year as he led the league in goals (11). Forrest is also Lehigh's first major award winner since 2011 (Kevin Struck, DPOTY; Ciaran Nugent, GOTY) and the program's first Offensive Player of the Year since Adam Williamson in 2005.
Forrest's impressive numbers this season have put him among the nation's best. He currently ranks second in total points (38), tied for the second-most goals (15), tied for the sixth-most assists (8), has the third-most points per game (2.11) and is tied for the sixth-most goals per game (0.83).
In addition to Forrest, Alex Greene and Doyle Tuvesson also received first-team accolades as both earned their first-career All-League selections. The trio of first-teamers has been a three-headed monster for the league-leading offense, which is averaging 1.94 goals per game, good for the 16th-best average in Division I. Lehigh also has top-20 totals in goals (35), assists (31) and points (101) this season.
Tuvesson has also put together an impressive season statistically, leading the league with 10 assists and ranking second in the league with 20 points. He is tied for the fourth-most assists in Division I and is one of just six players nationally to reach the double-digit mark in assists so far this season.
Greene has bounced back in a big way this season after seeing limited action last fall due to injury. He has matched his career-high with five goals and is one point shy of tying his career-high of 15 points which he established in his freshman campaign.
Team co-captain and one of the anchors of the back line, John Marc Charpentier, earned a second-team selection and the first All-League honor of his career. The senior center back has excelled at stifling the opposition's top offensive threats and, in turn, has gained the respect of opponents around the league. He has led a defensive unit that ranks in the top-four of the Patriot League in goals-against average and has contributed to five shutouts this the season, including three in league play.
Oscar Greene and Stevo Bednarsky round out the group of Lehigh All-League honorees as they each garnered third-team selections for their first-career All-League accolades. Greene has been a key offensive contributor from his midfield position, adding yet another scoring threat to a potent offense and drawing the attention of opposing defenders with his play-making abilities in the attacking third. Bednarsky has been a valuable piece in solidifying the back line in just his first season of collegiate soccer. He has proven to be a shutdown defender on the edge at his outside back position, while also demonstrating his ability to facilitate the offensive rush as evidence of his two assists on the season.
Fourth-seeded Lehigh will host fifth-seeded Holy Cross Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament.
