Six Rangers Named to All-RMAC Teams
Diem Named RMAC Defensive POY, McCall Coach of Year; Six Rangers Named to All-RMAC Teams
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.: After an outstanding regular season in the RMAC, six Rangers were named to All-RMAC teams, four to First Team alone. Senior Taylor Diem was named Defensive Player of the Year while head coach Tony McCall was named Coach of the Year after the Rangers went an undefeated 14-0-0 in the RMAC and 16-0-1 overall.
The Rangers were named RMAC Champions after finishing first in the RMAC with 42 points on the season, 13 points above the next competitor on the standings.
After the 2012 regular season, McCall has amassed a 52-13-10 overall record and a 40-8-8 record in the RMAC. He led the Rangers to the second undefeated season all-time in the RMAC while remaining the only NCAA Division II men's soccer team in the nation to have stayed undefeated throughout the 2012 season.
Diem has been a mainstay on the Ranger defense throughout the 2012 season. He has started in 16 contests so far, putting up one game-winning goal and four assists for six points. The Middleton, Wis. native has helped the Rangers to a 0.75 goals against average.
Also named to First Team were senior Alex Tarnoczi and sophomores Logan Miller andMartin Maybin.
A forward on the team, Tarnoczi has collected nine goals and six assists for 24 points. He has netted three game-winning goals while putting 21 of his 45 shots on goal for a .467 shot on goal percentage. The Castle Rock, Colo. native has started in 16 contests throughout the 2012 and been named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week once.
Miller, a midfielder from Tomball, Texas, was named to First Team after starting in 16 matches. He has scored nine goals and assisted on three others for 21 points this season. He has been successful on 5-of-7 penalty kick attempts in 2012 and was named RMAC Freshman of the Year in 2011.
Maybin has been a strong force on the Ranger offensive line throughout regular season play. The forward from Belfast, Northern Ireland leads Regis with 12 goals, nine assists and 33 points this season. He has accumulated a .650 shot on goal percentage after putting 26 of his 40 shots on goal.
Senior defender Michael Sheehan and junior midfielder Justin Ortinau were named to the Second Team.
Sheehan was one of four Rangers to start in all 17 contests this season. The native of Limerick, Ireland has netted one goal for the Rangers which started the comeback that would lead Regis to defeat Fort Lewis College and continue their way to a perfect, undefeated season. He also helped the Rangers to a 0.75 goals against average.
Ortinu has been instrumental in setting the pace of action for the Rangers throughout the 2012 season. The Saint Louis, Mo. native is second on the team with eight assists, and has scored three goals himself for 14 points on the season. He is also one of only four Rangers that have started in all 17 matches.
As the 2012 RMAC Champions, the Rangers will host the RMAC Tournament on Friday, November 2 at 2:30 PM. Sunday will be hosted by the highest remaining seed after Friday's matches.
