Six Unanswered Goals Power Kats
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Oct. 22 – The Erie Community College men’s soccer team got two goals each from Ron Cox (Lackawanna, N.Y./Lackawanna) and Dane Gilcrist (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) and five assists from Pablo Ordonez (Cheektowaga, N.Y/Cheektowaga) as the Kats scored six unanswered goals in recording a 6-1 victory over Adirondack Community College Saturday in the Region III playoffs at the ECC South Campus.
The Kats, now 8-7-1, advance to play the region’s top seed and nation’s fifth-ranked team, Genesee Community College, Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Batavia in the Region III quarterfinals. Genesee CC defeated Erie CC 3-0 Sept. 8 but the Kats upended Genesee CC in last year’s Region III quarterfinals.
Ordonez has scored 47 points this season, the most at ECC since Roosevelt Connell recorded 50 points in 2005.
After Adirondack CC took a 1-0 lead, Cox tied the score on a penalty kick. Gilchrist then scored to give the Kats a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Cox made it 3-1 as ECC scored four second-half goals to record the win.
