Petrucelli Earns 350th Career Win In Dominating 6-1 Win Over ULM

DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs scored four times in the first half, including two from freshmen, as they defeated the University of Louisiana at Monroe 6-1 at Westcott Field on Friday night. With the victory, SMU Head Coach Chris Petrucellibecame the 16th coach in NCAA history to amass 350 career wins.
Shelby Redman scored twice, while Rikki Clarke posted a goal and two assists. Freshmen Taylor Jackson and Kelsey Gorneyeach scored their first-career goals in their first collegiate action, while fellow newcomer Taylor Barg added two assists.
SMU (1-0) dominated possession for much of the opening portion of the game, but could not get any balls toward the goal. Clarke opened the floodgates for SMU at the 15:49 mark, poking one past ULM (0-1) goalie Holly Mallinson off a pass in the box from Barg. Gorney would add hers less than six minutes later with a 22 yard strike to the bottom right corner. After a shot from Redman went high, Jackson scored off a corner kick from Barg. Three minutes later, Redman scored to give SMU a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
Two minutes after the break, Redman added her second tally on an unassisted effort. A turnover in SMU's defensive third gave ULM its only goal on its only shot of the game, as Mariah Mitchell lobbed the ball over the SMU defense into a wide-open net.
Briana Gaines would add an insurance goal for the Mustangs in the 81st minute off a well-placed entry ball from Clarke into the front end of the box.Jessica Bartol also earned an assist on the play.
The win improves Petrucelli's all-time record to 350-118-40 (.728).
SMU will visit Arkansas on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The Mustangs' next home match is against Colorado State on Friday, Aug. 30 at 12 p.m.
