Soccer Defeats UTEP For Fourth Shutout
HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team shut out UTEP, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium. The Cougars are now 7-7-3 on the season and 3-3-3 in Conference USA.
"This was by far the best win of the season," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "We had some players that could barely walk or have been sick all week. Friday was a bad loss, but we came out, showed our character and got the win."
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when junior midfielder Jasmine Martinez tallied her first goal of the match and seventh of the year off an assist by junior midfielder Rebekah Horsey and senior defender Kaci Bush.
It wouldn't take long for Houston to answer again. Martinez found senior forward Katelyn Rhodes just inside the box with a minute left in the half.
The Cougars came out of the locker room firing, and scored on their first shot attempt of the half. Junior midfielder Kylie Cook found Martinez for her second goal of the day at the 54:56 mark.
Junior keeper Cami Koski posted her fourth shutout of the season and 15th of her career. Koski now leads the program in career shutouts.
"Congrats to Cami," Pfau said. "With the season she is having, this milestone is well deserved."
