Soccer Falls to North Texas 2-1
DENTON- The University of Houston soccer team fell to North Texas, 2-1, at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.
"I was very happy with the way we played this afternoon," head coach Chris Pfau said. "We did some great things against a NCAA Tournament caliber team."
The Mean Green jumped out to an early, 1-0, lead after junior defender Kelsey Hodges knocked in a free kick just inside the near post.
The Cougars struck back in the 68th minute to tie the match when junior midfielder Jasmine Martinez netted her second goal of the season off a pass from junior forward Sami Sackos.
North Texas scored the game-winner in the 81st minute and was able to remain undefeated.
The Cougars were outshot 16-7 in the match. Jackie Kerestine earned the win for the Mean Green, making five saves in the match.
"When we start to believe how we could be, we will be a tough team to beat," Pfau said. "Right now we just need games to gain that confidence in ourselves and our teammates."
