Soccer Hosts Border War
The University of Wyoming women's soccer will conclude the regular season with Senior Day against rival Colorado State this Friday at 3 p.m. MT at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Wyoming is 5-0-0 at home this season. A win over the Rams would give UW its first undefeated home record in program history. Wyoming is still second in the Mountain West standings. The Cowgirls trail San Diego State and lead by one point over New Mexico. The Cowgirls' best finish ever in the MW regular season was tied for second in 2003.
"It is the Border War and a rivalry so we know records don't matter and we will need to play well," UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "It's our senior day and we have a great group of seniors that have accomplished a lot during their four years here including a runner up finish in the 2012 conference tournament, and advancing to the Mountain West tournament last year and right now are in second place. They really have raised the bar for the Wyoming Soccer program."
Wyoming leads the series against the Rams 1-0-0. The last match was on Sept. 29, 2013, as the Cowgirls earned a 3-0 victory over CSU in Fort Collins, Colo. UW found a goal in the 10th minute with a shot from the top of the box in the top corner of the net. The Cowgirls added a goal in the 69th minute off a rebound from a free kick to push it past the CSU keeper. UW notched its third after serving a header to assist a shot.
Last Sunday the Rams lost at No. 24 San Diego State, 1-0, in double overtime. The Aztecs had an advantage in shots during regulation play 10-4 and continued their advantage through both overtimes 11-5. SDSU found its goal in the 105th minute with a shot from the top of the box finding the back of the net.
