Soccer Monarchs Move Up To 11th In National Polls
ODU SOCCER MONARCHS MOVE UP TO 11TH IN NATIONAL POLLS
NORFOLK, VA—The Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs (3-0) moved up to 11th in the national polls this week by Soccer America. ODU is also 12th by College Soccer News, 17TH BY TopdrawerSoccer, 21st by the NSCAA, and 23RD by Soccer Times.
Junior midfielder Jordan LeBlanc(Haverford, PA.) and sophomore forward Tim Hopkinson were honored for their efforts In the Monarchs two victories over the weekend. Hopkinson was named to the Stihl Soccer Classic all-tournament team and also was chosen to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week. Jordan LeBlanc (Haverford, PA.) was the MVP of the Stihl Soccer Classic, and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
The Monarchs captured the 36th annual Stihl Soccer Classic with wins over nationally ranked East Tennessee State and Monmouth.
Hopkinson,(Nottingham, England) recorded two goals and an assist as the sophomore forward scored the Monarchs' second goal and assisted on the third in a 4-0 victory over #19 East Tennessee State on Friday and then had ODU's final goal in a 3-1 triumph over No.13 Monmouth on Sunday.
The last time the Monarchs were in the top 15 was on Dec. 5 of 2006 at 14 by the NSCAA. That same season, ODU ranked as high as seventh. The Monarchs return to action this Saturday night at Elon.
