<p><strong>HOUSTON&nbsp;</strong>&ndash; The University of Houston soccer team opened up its 2012 home slate with a 3-2 win over Houston Baptist Sunday evening. Sophomore forward Kayla Walker provided the game winner in the 60th minute.</p> <p>&ldquo;We came out with a positive attitude and played with confidence,&rdquo; head coach Chris Pfau said. &ldquo;We played more as a team.&rdquo;</p> <p>The Cougars came out strong and didn&rsquo;t take long for to get on the board. Junior forward Jasmine Martinez put one on within the first five minutes of the match on a penalty kick. Freshman forward Lauren Hodgdon followed in the 21^st&nbsp;minute with a ball to the back of the net from Martinez, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead.</p> <p>The Huskies had some scoring opportunities and weren&rsquo;t going go into the half scoreless. In the 26^th&nbsp;minute junior midfielder Molly Missimer put the Huskies on the board by scoring off a corner by Amina Redoncic.&nbsp;</p> <p>In the second half, HBU came out physical but the Cougars were unfazed, scoring the game-winning goal in the 60^th&nbsp;minute. The Huskies came within one in the 78^th&nbsp;minute but were unable to capitalize and suffered their first loss of the season.</p> <p>Junior goalkeeper Sydney George got the win for the Cougars despite allowing two goals and having nosaves the entire match.</p> <p><strong>UP NEXT<br /></strong>Houston will travel to Denton, Texas this Sunday to face North Texas at 1 p.m. The Mean Green hold a 1-7-1 all-time record against the Cougars.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>SEASON TICKETS</strong>&nbsp;<br />Houston Soccer season tickets are available now.
