Soccer Suffers First Conference Loss To UCF
HOUSTON- The University of Houston soccer team suffered its first loss in Conference USA play after being shutout, 2-0, by No. 10 UCF on Friday evening in Orlando, Fla. The Cougars are now 4-5-2 on the season.
The Knights came out shooting and would get on the scoreboard early after a header from five feet out by junior midfielder Ashley Nicol in the seventh minute. They would answer again in the 33rd minute and go into halftime up 2-0.
"This was a game we needed to continue to develop," head coach Chris Pfau said. "Whenever you play a nationally ranked team you have to do he little things and trust in that. We did not do that in the first half and we paid for it."
The Cougars came out of the half ready to work and would get off some good looks, but it wasn't enough and the Knights would hold on to the victory.
Junior keeper Cami Koskiwould get the loss, despite have a career-high 13 saves on the game. She now holds a 3-5-2 overall record.
