South Florida women rout Austin Peay

TAMPA-After a two hour and 45 minute weather delay, the University of South Florida women’s soccer team showcased an offensive attack that coach Denise Schilte-Brown has been waiting to see in their 6-0 win against visiting Austin Peay at the USF Soccer Stadium Friday evening.

"I was proud of the team, because this was our second rain delay. This can happen again in Florida, as we know the weather is a little unpredictable," said Schlite-Brown.

After failing to capitalize on numerous chances from the opening kick, one would figure it was only a matter of time before the Bulls put one past the Governor keeper, and in the 18th minute they would do just that. Although, it came from unlikely player. Sophomore defender Valorie O’Brien moved up and sent a high shot from about 30 yards out that was just out of reach of the APSU keeper for her first career goal. Taylor Patterson picked up her first of two assists on the night along with junior defender Angelique Waller.

"We excited to score some goals and get on the board and get a win, but I think what we were most proud that the girls played good soccer," said Schlite-Brown.

From there on, the flood gates would open up on the visiting Governors as the Bulls would score three more goals in the next 16 minutes.

Next, it would be sophomore Chelsea Klotz who tallied her first goal of the 2009 campaign after leading the Bulls in scoring in her rookie season a year ago. Klotz took a feed from sophomore Rehana Murani and sent it past the APSU keeper for her fifth career goal.

Registering the next goal for the Bulls would be a name that has been called a lot so far, as USF leading scorer Noelle Pineiro would finish of a series of beautiful passes from sophomore Gina Pacheco and Patterson to push the lead to 3-0.
