CEDAR CITY, Utah--Stacey Brinkman scored off a free kick 4:27 into the second overtime to give Southern Utah a 3-2 victory over CSU Bakersfield (6-11-2) in the 2012 finale for both clubs Sunday afternoon.

The Thunderbirds (3-11-2) scored in the third minute to take an early lead before Sam Peña (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) and Emily Noethe (So., Dallas, Ga., East Paulding HS) scored to take a lead into halftime. Missy Lazcano tied the match in the 52nd minute setting the stage for Brinkman's gamewinning goal.

"It was disappointing way to end a season," said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. "We were the better team again today (CSUB outshot SU 25-16) but we couldn't find a way to get the result. We showed some very encouraging moments, but we have to continue to improve our mental toughness, so our technique and tactics can lineup to get results."
