St. Cloud State Defeats UMC on Sept. 25, 3-0
The Huskies defeated the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-0. The game was played at Husky Stadium in front of 175 spectators.
The Huskies controlled the tempo for the entire match and the majority of the match was played in the Golden Eagles zone. After a scoreless first half SCSU came out ready to go in the second. Junior Kayla Kramer put the Huskies up 1-0 just 1:42 into the second half. It was Kramer's second goal on the season. Earning an assist on the goal was sophomore Kate Hanzlik.
At the 77:54 mark of the match the Huskies went up 2-0 on a goal by sophomore Becca Hodous. This was Hodous' first goal of the season. Assisting on the goal was sophomore Kara Dahmen. Dahmen had a huge week for the Huskies scoring three goals. Two came against Sioux Falls on Wednesday night and she had the lone goal in yesterdays 1-0 victory over MSU Moorhead.
Freshman Kara Espinosa added one more goal for good measure in the 86th minute of the match. It is Espinosa's second goal in 2011 and her second career goal. Her first career goal came on September 10 against SMSU which proved to be the game winner.
The final shot count was 25 to 8 in favor of SCSU.
Kenzie Hanzlik posted her third consecutive shut out for the Huskies. She contributed four saves in the match.
SCSU has won three in a row and improve their record to 4-4-0 and 2-2-0 in NSIC play. The Huskies travel to Bemidji State on Saturday (Oct. 1) to take on the Beavers and will be in Duluth on Sunday (Oct. 2) to square off against the Bulldogs. Both NSIC matches are slated for 1:00 pm starts. The Huskies return home on October 22nd to face Northern State at 1:00 pm and will host U-Mary at 1:00 pm on October 23rd.
