St. Cloud State Tops Augustana, 4-2
St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team (4-4-1, 1-4-1 NSIC) gained its first conference win of the season with a solid 4-2 victory over Augustana College (7-2-0, 5-1-0 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 4 at Husky Stadium.
The Huskies rolled to a 3-0 lead in the first half to set the game's tempo and then added one more in the second half to ice the win. Both of Augie's goals were charted in the second half after SCSU gained a 4-0 lead.
To open the contest, SCSU's Ally Herod scored at 5:48 in the first half with an assist from Naomi Kolhoff. This was Herod's second goal of the season.
SCSU stretched its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Taige Thoreson at 14:25 on a header into the top right of the goal. Gabby Fleck posted the lone assist on the play. At 32:36, Kayla Stevenson notched the game winner with a header goal off a corner kick assist from teammate Kara Dahmen to make it 3-0.
In the second half, Dahmen connected again with a corner kick assist that was put into the net on a header byKara Espinosa at 53:39 to make it 4-0.
Augustana broke the shuout for SCSU's Brittany Plombon with a goal by Kirsten Smith at 59:27 to make it 4-1. The Vikings completed the scoring at 75:32 of the game with a goal by Annie Thoresen.
In the game, Augustana outshot the Huskies 22-12 as Plombon made eight saves and AC keeper Ashley Limmer had three saves in the game.
The Huskies will look to continue their winning ways with a 1 p.m. home game on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Husky Stadium against NSIC rival Wayne State College. Fans can purchase tickets for this game at the gate on game day.
