St. Cloud State Women's Soccer Scores 2-1 Win at SMSU
Marshall, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team (1-2) earned its first victory of the 2011 season with a 2-1 win at Southwest Minnesota State (1-2) on Sept. 10, in Marshall. Of note, this match was considered a non-conference game for these two NSIC opponents.
SMSU scored first in the game with a goal at 58:55 by the Mustang's Kelly Fitzgerald. The Huskies charged back to tie the contest at 63:59 with an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Mary Morhardt (Gilbert, Ariz.). This marked Morhardt's first goal of the season and her third point in 2011.
The game winner for the Huskies was notched at the 88:00 mark with a tally by freshman Kara Espinosa (Minnetonka). She was assisted on the play by senior Sarah Clapp.
The Huskies outshot SMSU by a 23-8 tally. SCSU goalie Kenzie Hanzlik (Stillwater) had two saves in the game, while SMSU's Sonya Smith had 15 saves for the Mustangs.
The Huskies will continue their 2011 season on Sept. 17 with a 1 p.m. match at Husky Stadium against Southwest Minnesota State - this will be the NSIC opener for the Huskies. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and all SCSU students with a valid ID card get in FREE!!!
