St. Francis Brooklyn Wins Fourth Straight
Moon Township, PA - - -A goal in each half propelled the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers to a 2-0 victory over the Robert Morris Colonials, on Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex. The Terriers, who are now a perfect 4-0-0 in the Northeast Conference, improved to 8-4-2 overall. The Red & Blue are 7-1-1 over their last nine contests and have a five-point lead in the conference standings with just three games remaining in the regular season.
St. Francis Brooklyn continued its dominance on the defensive end of the field as they allowed just one Robert Morris (3-7-2, 0-2-1) attempt to reach senior goalkeeper Seth Erdman. The Terriers have now outscored their league opponents by an 8-0 margin. In fact, all four contests have been decided by a score of 2-0.
The Terriers' first goal came in the 35th minute when senior forward Salvatore Barone tapped the ball forward to a streaking Yussuf Olajide, who broke free with a couple of touches before tapping it under charging Colonials' keeper Winter Fondi. Djiby Sarr started the play from the 50-yard line with a pretty feed to Barone, who quickly found Olajide for his fourth tally of the season.
An insurance marker came in the 63rd minute off a perfectly lofted Federico Curbelo corner into the center of the box. Collyns Laokandi created space in front and headed home the cross. Fondi was knocked to the ground by his own man during the play and never had a chance to make the stop from point-blank range.
The Terriers fired 16 shots to the Colonials' 11 at goal, with eight shots hitting their target.
St. Francis Brooklyn will host Central Connecticut State on Friday evening at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
