St. John's women tie CCSU in exhibition play
New Britain, Conn. (Aug. 8, 2012) – The St. John’s(w) women’s soccer team began preseason play with a 1-1 tie against Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday. The Red Storm and Blue Devils played three 30-minute periods in the exhibition at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Conn.
Junior midfield Amy Marron, who was named to the 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST team, scored for the Red Storm in the first four minutes of the contest. Marron scored off a free kick.
The Blue Devils answered back in the third period to knot the score at 1-1.
All three Red Storm goalkeepers got minutes in the net with returning starter Lauren Ferris, senior Meredith Kenyon and newcomer Ellen Conway each getting their fair share of time between the pipes.
Twenty different St. John’s players saw action in the contest.
St. John’s will play two additional preseason exhibitions, with the Red Storm hosting Rider on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m., then traveling to College Park, Md., to play the Terps on Monday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.
The St. John’s women’s soccer season will officially kick off on Friday, Aug. 17 with a home contest against George Mason at 7 p.m. The Red Storm and Patriots will be the first teams to experience the newly-surfaced Belson Stadium.
BIG EAST season will commence on Sept. 13. The Red Storm opens BIG EAST play against Providence at home under the lights of Belson at 7 p.m.
