Stratton named CoSIDA Academic All-District
Complete List of Honorees | Feature Story/Video on Stratton
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a tremendous senior season on and off the field, Lehigh women's soccer senior Amanda Stratton has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 team, as announced on Thursday. Stratton owns a stellar 3.83 cumulative grade point average in Bioengineering and was recently named a third team All-Patriot League honoree as starting center back for the Mountain Hawks.
Stratton is Lehigh's first Academic All-District honoree since Paige Elliott earned back-to-back honors in 2014 and 2015. In total, Stratton is the eighth different student-athlete in women's soccer's all-time history to receive the honor (Elliott in 2014-15, Liz Carlos and Glynn Fitzer in 2010, Jen Fetsick in 2007, Daniela Molina in 2006, along with Erin Iwaskiewicz and Shannon Trexler in 2004).
The award is just the latest of several honors for Stratton, who was named an Academic All-League honoree following her junior season and won the team's Scholar-Athlete Award winner as both a sophomore and junior. Stratton posted a perfect 4.0 GPA last fall and has been named to the Dean's List in every semester of her college career. She's also been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award.
On the field, Stratton started all 18 games for a defense that allowed just 0.67 goals per game. As a team, Lehigh led the Patriot League in GAA while pitching nine shutouts and allowing a goal or fewer in 14-of-17 games. The Mountain Hawks earned shutouts in six of their nine regular season league contests.
Stratton also scored her first-career goal (at Delaware) and dished an assist (at St. John's). In that St. John's game, she made a key save on the goal line in the final minute to help preserve Lehigh's 2-1 win, being rewarded with Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. Stratton was part of a defense that pitched 21 shutouts since the start of 2016, second most shutouts over a two-year stretch in school history and among the top totals in the nation over the past two years.
The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the 2017 season with a 9-5-4 record following a heartbreaking Patriot League Quarterfinal defeat at Colgate in overtime. Miller tied a career-high nine saves in the contest. The 2017 season saw plenty of highlights, including a 27-day stretch without a loss (from Sept. 3 to Sept. 30), a weekend sweep of Big East opponents Villanova and St. John's and winning four-of-five games to close out the regular season. Five Mountain Hawks earned All-Patriot League recognition, most since they also had five honorees during Lehigh's 2010 league championship campaign.
