Streufert Provides Another Game Winner; Lady Scots Edge Huntingdon
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Saturday night, in very windy and cool conditions, the Covenant women’s soccer team hosted Huntingdon College at Scotland Yard and came away with a 1-0 conference victory. The Lady Scots dominated the Lady Hawks for the entire game but did not find a goal to break the tie until the 79th minute, when senior Dana Streufert beat Huntingdon goalkeeper Jenny Bernash. The goal, Streufert’s fifth of the season, was her third game winner. Covenant improves to 8-7-2 (6-1-1 GSAC) while Huntingdon drops to 6-9-1 (2-6 GSAC).
The first half was slow as Covenant got settled into its rhythm. The Lady Scots had 9 shots on goal to Huntingdon’s 0. The second half was more eventful as Covenant had 25 shots on goal, again, to Huntingdon’s 0. With only 11 minutes left in the game, Streufert dribbled past the Huntingdon defense and scored an unassisted goal to secure the game for Covenant. It was the only time Bernash allowed anything by her all night. The junior goalkeeper tallied 18 saves through the 90 minutes of action and kept the match at a deadlock, denying Covenant numerous would-be goals.
The Lady Scots final home game and regular season match is against Berry College on Saturday, November 5.
