Suskie Sparks Marauders in Win Over Mansfield
Lock Haven, Pa. – Senior Taylor Suskie sparked the Millersville offensive attack with a team-high four shots on goal and scored late in the contest to lead the Marauders to a 1-0 victory over Mansfield in a neutral site game played at Lock Haven Wednesday.
Millersville (5-3-1, 3-3-1 PSAC) dominated the offensive zone from the start of the match. The Marauders outshot the Mountaineers (1-6, 0-5 PSAC) in both sessions with a combined margin of 21-5. Millersville fired 10 shots on goal from five different players. The Marauders had 10 different players record at least one shot.
The game was held scoreless until the 80th minute of play. Millersville’s Tess Briggs fed Suskie into the box with a pass from outside of the zone. Suskie kicked the ball low to beat Mansfield’s Alexis Wilhelm to the right side to put the Marauders up 1-0 with 10 minutes to play.
The Mountaineers had no response in the remaining minutes of regulation. Millersville dominated the second half in both shots (12-2) and corner attempts (9-0).
Despite the loss, Mansfield’s Wilhelm (1-5) made nine saves to keep the Mountaineers in the game. Millersville’s Ashley Matyasich (3-1-1) made three saves to secure her second shutout of the season.
With the win, the Marauders move into a tie for fifth place with No. 3 California (Pa.) (5-0-1, 3-0-1 PSAC) in the PSAC standings with 10 points. Millersville and the Vulcans are two points out of third place.
The Marauders host No.22 Kutztown this Saturday, Oct. 1. Millersville and the Golden Bears are slated to kick off at 1 p.m.
