TDS Women’s Division I Best XI teams
Two former top-ranked recruits share the summit this season as TopDrawerSoccer.com announces its postseason women’s awards.
Morgan Brian is the women’s player of the year for the second season in a row, edging out Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Sam Mewis for this year’s honor. The top freshman goes to another top player who appeared at this year’s College Cup, as Andi Sullivan takes the nod for best first-year Division I women’s player.
Brian had 10 goals and 14 assists in just 18 games, missing eight games for Virginia because of international duty. She scored four goals and had nine assists in six NCAA tournament games, although she was shut out in the College Cup final loss against Florida State.
Stanford star Sullivan was the crown jewel of the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class, and slipped in seamlessly to the Cardinal midfield after missing a large chunk of preseason with the U.S. U20 WNT. She made 24 appearances, making 23 starts mostly as a holding midfielder, though she had a short stint as a center back in the middle of the season, scoring once and assisting on four goals this season.
