Tejera is MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena Soccer junior striker Alexander Tejera has been named the MAAC Wilson Offensive Player of the Week. The Ossining, New York standout scored twice including the game-winner in the Saints’ impressive season-opening 4-1 victory over defending Northeast Conference Champion and preseason favorite LIU Brooklyn Friday.
Tejera first struck in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick which would ultimately prove to be the game-winner as Siena ended the nation’s second longest active unbeaten streak at 13, handing the Blackbirds their first defeat since last Sept. 20.
He then worked hard to draw a foul in the box in the 66th minute and converted the ensuing penalty kick that he had earned to give the Saints some breathing room en route to a dominant victory over an LIU Brooklyn squad which entered the season amongst teams also receiving votes in the College Soccer News Preseason Poll.
Tejera was extremely active throughout the match, registering six shots including three which he put on target.
Tejera and the Saints return to action Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff at New Hampshire.
