Temple Loses to Tulsa 2-1 in Double Overtime
Temple men's soccer fell in double overtime 2-1 to Tulsa on Senior Day at Ambler Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Tulsa improves to 9-5-1, 5-2-0 while Temple drops to 2-12-2, 1-5-1.
The Owls scored first with a goal in the third minute of the game. Jared Martinelli crossed the ball into the box and it went off the goalkeeper's hands right to Chas Wilson, who put the ball in the net three feet out. Both teams had multiple scoring chances as the half was full of action and had a quick pace.
The Hurricanes tied the game up in the 70th minute on a penalty kick. Akeil Barret converted the penalty kick after a teammate was fouled in the box.
After no shots were attempted in the first overtime, Tulsa scored on their first shot in the extra periods. Bradley Bourgeois headed in a ball three minutes in the second overtime off a corner kick to win the game.
Tulsa outshot Temple 17-13 in the game. Martinelli led the Owls with three shots on goal and moved into a tie for sixth place in Temple history in career assists with 19.
Goalkeeper Dan Scheck made eight saves in the loss.
Temple is off until next Saturday when they travel to face Memphis at 7:00 p.m. The game will be the final one of the regular season for both teams.
