Terriers down Francis Marion 3-0
SPARTANBURG, SC – Wofford College scored in the 18th minute and then added a pair of second-half goals to claim a 3-0 victory over Francis Marion University, Friday night (Sept. 27) in women’s college soccer action.
Francis Marion (0-8-0) will conclude its weekend trip to the Upstate with a match at Furman University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Terriers (4-2-0) outshot the Patriots 25-5 and held a slim 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
FMU sophomore goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry made eight saves, while freshman Kim Newton registered one save in her first collegiate action. Wofford’s Kimberly Cohn made two saves while picking up the win.
Patriot juniors Brittney Smith (14th minute) and Dominique Evans (40th minute) recorded the two FMU shots on frame. Sophomore Arianna Pierner had a chance to cut the Wofford lead to 2-1 in the 72nd minute, but for the second straight match a shot of her’s bounced off the crossbar.
Alex Kachulis gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead with an unassisted score at the 17:03 mark. Chloe Brackett added an unassisted goal in the 69th minute, before Emily Bougas headed in a pass from Tanner Kaplan at 80:55 to account for the final tally.
