Three Different Goal Scorers Lead LBC to 7th Straight Win
The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team once again used timely offense and a stingy defense to win their seventh straight game on Monday. The Chargers defeated Lycoming for the first time in program history, winning 3-0 at Charger Field.
Whitney Heise, Kristina Clairmont and Evelyn Stauffer scored for LBC, while Ally Brown added two assists to propel LBC to their sixth straight multi-goal win.
Though they scored multiple goals again, it was goalkeeper Emily Lloyd who may have made the biggest play of the day. With LBC leading 2-0 midway through the first half, Lycoming began controlling play and received a penalty kick after the Warriors' Leslie Kester's shot hit off the crossbar then off LBC defender Jenna Godwin's arm in the box.
Kester's PK shot was headed for the right hand corner of the goal, but lloyd dove and stretched her arms out and made the save, keeping the lead at two.
"That was a huge save for us at that point in the game," LBC Head Coach Ken Craul said. "Being up 2-0 at that point is a lot different than being up 2-1 and all the momentum they had was switched to us, just like that."
LBC's Evelyn Stauffer increased the lead to 3-0, eight minutes later when Monica Horning's cross into the box was saved by Warriors' goalkeeper Caitlin Dougherty, but the rebound shot out to Stauffer who put it into the back of the goal.
"They had a bit better possession than us, but we didn't give up any quality opportunities to them," Craul said. "They gave us a few openings and we took advantage of them."
LBC [7-1, 4-0] out shot the Warriors, 24-17 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Lloyd finished with 10 saves to record her fifth shutout of the season.
The Chargers return to NEAC play on Wednesday when they travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to take on Wilson College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
Notes:
-LBC is now 1-7 all-time against Lycoming.
-The three goals scored on Monday by LBC are more than they had in the first seven games of the series.
