Three Mids Earn Spots on All-Tournament Team
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's soccer team placed three players on the Holiday Inn Express BWI All-Tournament Team, announced following the conclusion of this weekend's tournament play. The event, co-hosted by UMBC and Navy, was not completed on Saturday as Navy and VCU were unable to finish its game due to inclement weather. Therefore, no tournament MVP or team champion was crowned.
Zach Davis, Martin Sanchez and Alex Wilson were Navy's representatives on the all-tournament squad.
Davis and Sanchez, a pair of junior defensemen, were vital cogs in Navy's 2-0 shutout victory over Robert Morris last Thursday night. The duo helped hold the Colonials to 11 shots, with just four of them coming in the last 75 minutes. For both players, it marked the second straight tournament they have been named honored after being selected to the Patriot League All-Tournament team at the end of last season. It was also the second time that Sanchez was named to the Holiday Inn Express BWI All-Tournament Team after earning recognition as a freshman in 2010.
Wilson, a junior forward, scored Navy's first goal of the year, the eventual game-winning goal, in the Midshipmen's win over Robert Morris. His goal in the 21st minute gave Navy a 1-0 lead and was the fourth career tally and first career game-winning goal. Wilson now has 13 points (4 g, 5 a) in 35 career games.
Navy will remain home on Saturday when it hosts a strong High Point team, which enters with a 3-0-0 record with victories over Elon (4-2), Adelphi (3-1) and Northern Kentucky (6-0). Kick-off is slated for 7:00 PM at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
